An engaging reinterpretation of history brings the myth of the Austrian empress Sissi back to the cinema screens in an original way. Alžbeta Bavorská is adored for her beauty and famous as the inspirer of fashion trends. In 1877, she turns 40, and in order to maintain her image, she has to lace her corset tighter and tighter. While Elizabeth's role at court is reduced against her will to a purely representative one, her hunger for knowledge and zest for life grows. He travels to England and Bavaria, visits former lovers and old friends, and seeks the excitement of his youth. When faced with a future filled with strict court duties, she rebels against her hyperbolized image of herself and devises a plan to protect her legacy.
A bold and up-to-date reflection on the value of women and their role in 19th-century Europe, which gives a glimpse behind the scenes of Empress Elizabeth's life and reveals her progressive ambitions as well as her darkest secret.
