Remembrance Ceremony for Victims of the Mountains
Motto: "To the dead in memory, to the living as a warning"
An annual commemoration ceremony at the Symbolic Cemetery beneath the western wall of Ostrva peak. The program begins with the tolling of the chapel bell and the reading of the names of those who perished in the High Tatras on both the Slovak and Polish sides over the past year. The ceremony includes a Holy Mass.
The Symbolic Cemetery was opened in 1940 on the initiative of painter Otakar Štáfl and has been a registered cultural monument since 1963.

Please respect this sacred memorial site. Take all trash with you, do not attach new commemorative plaques without authorization, and extinguish and carry away any lit candles when leaving.
