We invite you to a discussion with columnist, writer and activist Marek Hudec about his new reportage book Trigger with the subtitle Stories of Love and Hate. 🌈 ❤️‍🩹 In it, Marek uncovers the tragic events of October 2022 in front of the popular queer business Tepláreň. He reconstructs the events of the fateful evening, investigates the killer's motives, but also looks back at the ruined lives of Juraj and Matúš and the story of the wounded Radka. In addition, the book does not neglect the broader context of the life of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia - from the story of the first Slovak queer activist, through the dark period of aversive therapies under totalitarianism to the fate of those who began to fight for their right to love in the post-revolutionary 90s. The book reveals the history of the Slovak Prids and the family referendum, which marked a turning point in the perception of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia. Against the background of these stories, we also perceive how Slovak society has changed and is changing. And it's not always for the better. 🌈 The reportage book Spúšť was created based on interviews with more than fifty people - relatives of the victims, witnesses from the scene of the crime, queer people affected by violence in the months before and after the murder, memorials to events from the near or distant past.
